From the Farm to You
Maine Grilling Woods are produced and packaged in Brooks, Maine at the family farmstead using wood harvested by hand by local woodcutters and farmers. Our wood comes fresh from the many small woodlots and family farms in the nearby rural areas of coastal and central Maine. The wood is then sawn, chunked, chipped, dried, packaged and shipped out right from the farm daily to restaurant, food service and retail customers in all 50 states and Canada.
Sustainable Wood Harvesting
Maine Grilling Woods continues a long tradition of sustainable harvesting practices that have been a hallmark of the management of Maine woodlands for nearly 200 years.  Maine is one of the few wood producing areas of the world that can proudly say the following:
"Since the middle of the 19th century, Maine has been gaining forest acreage, not losing it like some parts of the world.  Maines forests have been harvested for wood products for over 200 years, yet 90% of the state remains forested - the highest percentage in the nation.  Timber harvest and overall forest growth rates are currently in a rough balance."  Maine Forest Service Website !

Hi Dorie,

Just a quick note to let you know we're definitely ENJOYING the woodchips that I ordered.   We've made grilled glazed chicked on cedar plank...which was very good.  (GLAZE:  peach/apricot preserves, minced onioin, minced garlic, soy sauce, chili sauce, rice wine vinegar, olive oil, black pepper....combine and cook in a saucepan over low heat for 5 to 8 mins.)  Last night we used for the first time the northern nutwoods chips w/seasoned N.Y. strip steaks.  Could definitely taste the wood.  Very good too.    We've been using the hickory and cedar and I'll need to reorder those when my order gets bigger.       The kids went to college (Quinnipiac University) but my daughter and her boyfriend, who's my right arm when it comes to esp. grilling, called at lunch time yesterday and asked if they could come home for dinner (like they need to ask) and they wanted the steaks w/your woodchips.  They were in heaven smelling the smoke, etc......  I haven't tried the chunks as yet.  But eager too.    Just thought I'd let you know the excitement is still there, the neighborhood is smelling wonderful and we're enjoying your products greatly.  We will be ordering soon.   At work and have to go but will keep in touch. Chris, Rocky Hill, CT

Chips: Our Smoking Chips are chipped from freshly harvested Maine trees. We never use scraps or lumberyard waste. Our chips are dried and carefully screened to provide a clean and uniform product. The difference is obvious. Don’t forget our super-clean Smoker Dust (Mini-Chips) that are just perfect for indoor smokers.
Chunks: When you open a bag of Maine Grilling Woods Chunks you know what we mean by “freshly harvested”. Our chunks are cut and split to size from round wood logs. You’ll never find flooring and furniture scraps in our bag. You’ll see the grain and flavorful sapwood that is found just under the bark. You’ll like our chunks!
Natural Oval Planks: Your outdoor grilling experience will never be the same after you try Natural Oval Grilling Planks exclusively from Maine Grilling Woods. Our planks are actually oval log slices of native Maine trees with the natural bark still on. These are not the dull, rectangle grilling boards that look like they come from the lumberyard, these are beautiful natural ovals that not only add cooking flavor, but because they double as serving planks, the also add an extraordinary gourmet touch to the meal presentation.
While rectangle planks are cut along the grain of the wood, our natural ovals are cut across the grain thus releasing the flavors of the wood. The trunk of a tree is made up of long tubular cells that go from the roots to the branches carrying water and nutrients to all parts of the tree. The distinctive flavors of each wood species are contained in these cells. Our oval planks slice across these cells and the result is a slow releasing of the wood flavors into your steak, etc. as it cooks on the grill or broils in the oven. It is inredible.
